my mother and sister in law just reprimanded me for doing this with my almost _10 months old_ nephew... who is on the _very cusp_ of walking (super early, I might add!)... not bc of anything yr saying here, but because they were under the impression that it's *"dangerous"* "they're more likely to get *hurt* being held that way... you're supposed to hold him _under his arms,_ for safety reasons!" - which I probably would've done if he was 4 or months old, but he's gonna be walking ANY DAY now. they both reacted & essentially _lunged at me_ like I'd picked him up by the head or something! I'm looking it up, but I honestly can't figure out where tf they GOT that information, or if they made it up themselves, why on earth would they be under that impression?!??

I'm just going to leave a controversial comment to give a different view. My toddler bit me in the thigh while I was washing dishes. I instinctively bunked said toddler on the head which resulted in lots of crying. I calmed the toddler down apologized and have never been bitten since nor have had a report of bitting at daycare. Just take everything you hear with a grain of salt and in my experience gentle parenting does NOT always work.

For leaving the park or any other place, I've also learned from a Montessori parent that it's great to give them a heads up, anytime you want to transition from one activity to another. So five minutes before it's time you say "it looks like you're having so much fun! In five min it's time to leave, so when mama says" five min are up" we have to leave, okay?" (and ontop of the heads up you can use the two choice method as the last activity like mentioned in the video) so they don't feel like you're just ripping them away from an activity then and there. It's the cold turkey ripping them away from the current activity that upsets them most of the time. When it's time to leave you say "oh that looked like so much fun! And five minutes are up, time to leave" and if they still have a hard time leaving you can add in "would you like to carry my/your (item) to the car/pram?" to incentivise leaving. 🌻 Thank you for yet another great video, Emma, you teach us so many things just to be better parents, you're a gem and one of my fav UA-camrs! ❤️

What to do if nothing does not work. NO grazing, no snacks, no autism (checked out by specialist) NO fruit, wont eat it hidden in sauces ( if it looks orange or green its NO) , no juice, giving safe food but then will eat that alone and say no to everything else. Seriously nothing works and im not giving excuses. I eat with her and eat the same food. Just made a smoothie. she knows something is in it that she doesnt like (carrots) she normally would drink juice she refused it. Its good and all getting all these examples but then what do you do with the child who doesnt fall for any of it. At this point, its starvation because im on day 2 of not giving in and she is willing to starve herself :( I do offer her dinner or milk. She now refuses both dinner and milk. Novelties also do not work. Preparing the food with her also does not work. She will not touch the fruit or vegetable. Especially if its sticky. Been at it for months now since she is 18 months then ended up giving her chips and nuggets and pasta so she wouldnt starve. Now i dont give in and its very heart breaking watching her not eat

Definitely can be helpful to tell your toddler something good/fun/interesting is coming after something they aren't thrilled about. This helped with potty training: "Go sit on the potty, then we'll go play with cars." Usually softens her defenses a little.

My one worry is that if it’s pitch black in the night I can’t see her. I worry that she’ll shuffle herself into a dangerous position or flip herself over or something. Also when it comes to feed in and changing her if I have to turn a light on she completely wakes up, whereas in dim light that doesn’t change she stays drowsy. Have you got any tips for navigating this?
